In the modern cities built with steel and concrete, are you often upset by the sound of footsteps and chair dragging from upstairs? Or are your moods affected by the TV sound and children's running and jumping from downstairs? Today, we will comprehensively analyze from material selection, scheme design to construction key points, take you to master the core technology of indoor sound insulation and shock absorption, and build a "silent protective shield" for your home environment.

Common sound insulation materials

damping sound insulation felt

Scope of application: It can be used with gypsum boards for sound insulation of walls or ceilings. It can also be used to wrap pipes and as floor sound insulation pads, and is suitable for places such as home bedrooms, KTVs, and machine rooms.

ceiling shock absorber

Scope of application: Ceiling sound insulation systems such as home theaters and piano rooms, places with strong vibrations like KTVs and bars, as well as pipeline hangers in equipment rooms.

Sound insulation cotton (polyester fiber cotton)

Scope of application: Filling for wall or ceiling keels in residences, conference rooms, etc. Rock wool and glass wool are less environmentally friendly than polyester fiber cotton, and they tend to cause skin itching during construction, but they have good fire resistance (Class A).

Damping sound insulation board

Scope of application: Walls or ceilings that require high sound insulation, such as in KTVs and bars. It works better when combined with keels and sound-absorbing cotton.

Polymer damping pad

Scope of application: Building floor slabs, such as isolating impact noise in floating structures like residences and gyms.

Ground shock absorber

Scope of application: places with high acoustic requirements such as recording studios and theaters, and precision places requiring micro-vibration prevention such as laboratories and medical imaging rooms.

Three Common Solutions for Ceiling Sound Insulation

Economical solution

Finished decoration thickness: approximately 12 - 15 centimeters.

Advanced方案

Finished decoration thickness: approximately 18 - 20 centimeters.

Reinforced Scheme (Special Requirements)

Finished decoration thickness: approximately 25 - 30 centimeters.

On-site demonstration and construction steps:

  1. 1.Full coverage sound insulation felt: Choose an environmentally friendly butyl rubber sound insulation felt with a thickness of more than 2 millimeters, with an overlap width of more than 5 centimeters. It is best to choose one with adhesive backing. Fix it with wooden strips and rust-proof self-tapping screws, with a spacing of less than 15 centimeters, and apply sound insulation sealant at the joints.

  2. 2.Install shock absorbers: Install spring shock absorbers at a spacing of 60×60 cm, fix them to the floor slab with expansion bolts, which can cut off the sound bridge and reduce low-frequency noise.

  3. 3.Erecting light steel keels: The main keels are clipped into the shock absorber buckles, and the distance between the secondary keels is 40 centimeters, forming a 600×400-millimeter grid.

  4. 4.Filling with sound insulation cotton: Choose high-density glass wool of 48 kg/m³. Cut it to a size 2 cm larger than the grid and stuff it tightly. The distance between the cotton layer and the floor slab should be more than 2 cm.

  5. 5.Sealing sound insulation boards: Prefer 12mm cement fiber boards or composite damping sound insulation boards. Use staggered joints for splicing, fix them to the keel with self-tapping screws at intervals of less than 20cm, sink the screw heads 1mm into the board surface, and seal the board joints with sound insulation sealant.

  6. 6.Sealing gypsum board: Cover the outer layer with 9.5mm gypsum board, stagger the joints with the underlying sound insulation board by more than 30cm, apply anti-crack tape at the joints, and scrape jointing gypsum.

Three common solutions for ground sound insulation

Economical Solution

Finished decoration thickness: approximately 8 - 10 cm.

Advanced Solution

Finished decoration thickness: approximately 10 - 12 centimeters.

Enhanced solution (for scenarios pursuing extreme quietness)

Finished decoration thickness: approximately 12 - 15 cm.
